Matthews named a 2023 Fellow of the Kopenhaver Center

Dr. Tammy Rae Matthews, assistant professor of digital journalism and sports journalism in the Jandoli School of Communication master’s program, has earned the distinction of being a 2023 Kopenhaver Center Fellow.

Thirty-nine percent of Americans bet on sporting events and 19%, including 39% of men 18-49 years old and 20% of women 18-49 years old, have an account with an online sports betting service, according to a new survey of United States adults released today by the Siena College Research Institute (SCRI) and 51’s Jandoli School of Communication.

51 students will be making a buzz at the Super Bowl again this year. That’s “buzz” as in WSBU 88.3 FM The Buzz, the student-run campus radio station. Six SBU students will join the throng of media professionals from around the world who will flock to Las Vegas next week for Super Bowl LVIII.

Walker publishes paper on advertising for bipolar drugs

Dr. Tara Walker, assistant professor in the Jandoli School, had her paper titled “On shaky ground: Stigma and otherness in direct-to-consumer advertising for bipolar disorder drug treatments” published at the end of November in the peer-reviewed Journal of Communication Inquiry.

Lees are panelists at Popular & American Culture conference

Anne and Dr. Richard Lee, lecturer and professor, respectively, in the Jandoli School, took part in a panel session at the Mid-Atlantic Popular & American Culture Association Conference on Nov. 10.
