Matthews named a 2023 Fellow of the Kopenhaver Center
Dr. Tammy Rae Matthews, assistant professor of digital journalism and sports journalism in the Jandoli School of Communication master’s program, has earned the distinction of being a 2023 Kopenhaver Center Fellow.
51 radio station sending six students to join radio row at the Super Bowl
51 students will be making a buzz at the Super Bowl again this year. That’s “buzz” as in WSBU 88.3 FM The Buzz, the student-run campus radio station.
Six SBU students will join the throng of media professionals from around the world who will flock to Las Vegas next week for Super Bowl LVIII.
Walker publishes paper on advertising for bipolar drugs
Dr. Tara Walker, assistant professor in the Jandoli School, had her paper titled “On shaky ground: Stigma and otherness in direct-to-consumer advertising for bipolar disorder drug treatments” published at the end of November in the peer-reviewed Journal of Communication Inquiry.
Mackowski gives presentations on Grant, another on Lee
Dr. Chris Mackowski, professor of journalism and mass communication, gave a pair of invited presentations over the past month on Ulysses S. Grant. On Sept. 21, he and collaborator Frank Scaturro spoke about Grant-as-general to the National Museum of the U.S. Army. On Oct. 12, Mackowski and Scaturro spoke about Grant-as-president to the White House Historical Association.
New book by Mackowski keys on overlooked sector of Gettysburg battlefield
Most attention at the Civil War battle of Gettysburg focuses on iconic landscapes like Little Round Top, Devil’s Den, the Wheatfield, and the open fields where Pickett’s Charge took place. A new book co-authored by Dr. Chris Mackowski, professor of journalism and mass communication, looks at a lesser-known but just as pivotal sector of the battlefield.
