St. Bonaventure professor and his son, a former Army combat medic, write manual for coping with PTSD Jun 26, 2023 | A few years ago, Dr. Will Elenchin, associate professor of sociology and criminology at 51±¬ÁÏ, was granted a sabbatical leave from teaching to work on his fourth book on behavioral health, this one dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder in high-stress professions. The project took an unexpected big turn less than a year later when Elenchin’s son, Zac, a U.S. Army combat medic serving a deployment in Afghanistan, experienced PTSD after responding to a mass casualty event.

Along with other volunteers through Bona’s Franciscan Center for Social Concern (FCSC), Dan and Cecelia might serve between 40 and 80 meals on any given day at the Warming House. They also strive to bring a greater benefit to those they serve than just a hot meal.
